Hercules and the Lernaean Hydra: A Clean Sports Lesson for Year 5

At the end of the school year and as part of the EPI, the Monegasque Anti-Doping Committee visited Collège Charles III to offer Year 5 students an introduction to the fight against doping, using the myth of Hercules and the Lernaean Hydra as a teaching aid. This myth illustrates the incessant fight against a regenerating evil, symbolizing the continuous vigilance necessary to counter doping in sport. It also establishes a special link with the Principality: according to Roman mythology, Hercules was welcomed into the pantheon there under the name Hercules Monoecus, the name from which Monaco takes its origin.

This session, integrated into the sports course, alternated between badminton activities and discussions on the principles of clean sport, as well as the health risks associated with prohibited substances.
