The Monegasque Anti-Doping Committee present at the School Athletic Games

On Wednesday June 14, 2017, the Stade Louis II served as the setting for the 27rd edition of the school athletic games organized by the National Education, Youth and Sports Department and the Monegasque Olympic Committee.

As for almost thirty years now, this day gathered around the values of athletics all the students of 7rd or CM2 from the Principality.

The sprint, long and high jump, middle distance and relay events have led these young people to give the best of themselves during competitions contested in a friendly atmosphere and in a good spirit. echoes the sentence of Pierre de Coubertin according to which: " The important thing in life is not the triumph, but the fight. The main thing is not to have won, but to have fought well ».

Inform and prevent

The Monegasque Anti-Doping Committee was once again present at this annual event and took the opportunity to inaugurate its new mobile facilities in the shadow of which it carried out one of its missions: raising young people's awareness of the essential fight against doping. , this scourge of modern sport.

This is how Dr. Muriel Tonelli, head of the Committee's Training Prevention Education commission and Dr. Jack Michel and Richard Manas were available to teachers and students to provide them with all the necessary explanations and answer any questions. their questions.

Likewise, during the medal ceremony, he gave, as usual, to the young people who had won a podium a red bag containing a cartoon relating to doping, a flyer giving the contact details of the Committee and its website. and the now famous Frisbee of the Committee, taking care to include in the distribution of these souvenirs the representative of the Directorate of National Education, Youth and Sports and the representative of the Monegasque Olympic Committee.

In this regard, let us indicate that the practice of Frisbee can be something other than a simple fun activity and constitute a real sport like Ultimate Frisbee is.

This team sport uses a frisbee (flying disc) and opposes, depending on the case, two teams of seven players (on an outdoor playing area of 64 mx 37 m surrounded by two end zones of 18 mx 37 m) or five players when played on a handball field or on a beach, the objective being to score points by progressing on the field by successive passes towards the opponent's end zone and to catch up with the disk.

Since the International Olympic Committee at its 128rd session held on August 2, 2015 in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) recognized the WFDF (World Flying Disc Federation / Fédération Mondiale de Disque Volant), the door has been opened for Ultimate Frisbee to become an Olympic discipline.

Perhaps this small gift to young school athletes will spark vocations and one day allow a Monegasque team to participate in the Olympic Games in this capacity if this discipline were to be selected as a summer sport. Do we ever know ?
