The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announces that, in accordance with International Standard for Laboratories (SIL)Sir Craig Reedie, Chairman of the WADA Executive Committee, approved the lifting of the suspension of the accreditation of the doping analysis laboratory in Doha, Qatar. The restoration of its accreditation allows the Doha laboratory to immediately resume all of its anti-doping activities, including urine and blood sample analyzes.
The Doha laboratory, whose accreditation had been suspended on November 7, 2016 due to SIL non-conformities, corrected these non-conformities and implemented all the recommendations issued following an assessment carried out. by the Laboratories expert group. Therefore, on April 11, 2017, WADA's Laboratories expert group recommended that the suspension be lifted.
"WADA is pleased to confirm that the accreditation of the Doha laboratory has been reinstated approximately five months after its suspension," said Olivier Niggli, Director General of WADA. We would like to congratulate the laboratory for its cooperation and efforts, which led to the reinstatement of its accreditation. We are convinced that the laboratory has corrected his deficiencies. The Laboratories expert group will continue to monitor the performance of the laboratory to ensure that it meets WADA's high standards. "
Under the SIL, WADA is responsible for the accreditation and re-accreditation of anti-doping laboratories, and therefore must ensure that they meet the highest quality standards. When a laboratory does not meet the requirements of the LIS, WADA may decide to suspend or revoke its accreditation. The large number of suspensions in 2016 and 2017 is a direct result of the more stringent quality assessment procedures implemented by WADA to ensure that laboratories maintain the most rigorous standards.
The decision to reinstate the accreditation of the Doha laboratory is communicated to all national public authorities, national accreditation bodies, National Anti-Doping Organizations, National Olympic Committees and International Federations concerned, as well as to the International Olympic Committee. , as required by SIL.
