CMA at the Monaco International Latin Dance Championship
On Saturday February 3, 2018, the Monegasque Sports Dance Association (AMDS) organized the Monaco International Latin Dance Championship at the Salon Méditerranée of the Méridien Beach Plaza hotel. The Monegasque Anti-Doping Committee was present.
Olympic discipline
Sports Dance, recognized as an Olympic discipline in 1997 and presented for demonstration at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000, has two categories: that of Latin dances composed of samba, cha-cha-cha, rumba, paso doble and jive; that of the standard dances composed of the English waltz also called "slow waltz", the tango, the Viennese waltz also called "fast waltz", the slow fox and the quickstep.
All of these disciplines, structured and codified, give rise to competitions organized by the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF), formerly known as the International Dance Sport Federation (IDSF), an organization which has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee as the Federation. international official of this branch of sport.
This organization has adopted an Anti-Doping Code which, in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code, is an integral part of its statutes as specified in point 2 of article 21 of the latter in their version currently in force resulting from the Assembly. General held in Singapore on June 12, 2017.
On Saturday February 3, 2018, the Monegasque Sports Dance Association (AMDS), affiliated to the WDSF, organized the Monaco International Latin Dance Championship at the Salon Méditerranée of the Méridien Beach Plaza hotel.
Sports Dance has been recognized as an Olympic discipline ever since. The discipline includes Latin dances (samba, cha-cha-cha, rumba, paso doble and jive) and standard dances (English waltz also called "slow waltz", tango, Viennese waltz also called “Fast waltz”, slow fox and quickstep).
Princely presence
The couple Olga Kulikova and Dmitry Zharkov (in large), three times world champion in standard dance of the WDSF, performed a magnificent demonstration under the gaze of HSH Prince Albert II.
In the morning, HSH the Sovereign Prince honored the competing athletes with his presence and was able to discuss with them as with the officials present about the future of the Olympic new disciplines of urban dance, the most famous of which is breakdance.
The events, complemented by demonstrations given by the couple Olga Kulikova and Dmitry Zharkov, three times WDSF world standard dance champion, dedicated the couple Svetlana Gudyno / Armen Tzaturyan.
The Monegasque Anti-Doping Committee (CMA), represented by its President, was present at this sporting event alongside the Secretary General of the Monegasque Olympic Committee, HE Ms. Yvette Lambin Berti, also a member of the CMA college, MM. Lukas Hinder and Jean-Louis Bourquin, respectively President and CEO of the WDSF and Ms Cherry Kingston and Nicole Bertolloti, respectively President and Vice-President of AMDS. It welcomes the collaboration initiated with the latter structure in the fight against doping.
Finally, Mr. Jean-Louis Bourquin, presented the state of play of sports dance from the perspective of Olympism and recalled that sports dance is one of the three new sports (along with karate and sport climbing) included in the program of the Youth Olympic Games to be held in Buenos Aires in 2018.
